HPC on the Nomination of Sandra L. Thompson

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 14, 2021

Washington, D.C. – The Housing Policy Council (HPC) issued the following statement today in response to the announcement that President Biden will nominate Sandra L. Thompson to serve as the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA):

“HPC welcomes the President’s nomination of Sandra Thompson to serve as the FHFA Director. Her extensive regulatory experience, which includes almost ten years in an executive role at FHFA and as the head of supervision at the FDIC, demonstrates that she has the background needed for this critical supervisory role. Acting Director Thompson recognizes the critical importance of safety and soundness regulation to the health and resilience of the U.S. housing finance system and the national economy. She also appreciates first-hand the significance of FHFA’s responsibilities as Conservator to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

If she is confirmed by the Senate, we look forward to working with her on a regulatory regime that is focused on the safety and soundness of the housing finance system, equitable regulatory treatment of all market participants, and the reliance on lending practices that create sustainable home ownership opportunities leading to long-term wealth and community building for families.”
